Draw Your Strength From the Lord

We finally moved into our new home in early April. We've dealt with plumbing back-ups, no electricity, wood floors being replaced, and other little repairs. We have wonderful neighbors and have enjoyed discovering the area. God is so good!

For the last year, I've often wondered, and doubted, how we were going to make it through this move and why we were even moving in the first place. The Lord brought us through the whole process, even when I allowed my doubts and worries and complaints to overwhelm me.

This morning I was reading back over a book I've enjoyed the last two months, How to Succeed at Being Yourself by Joyce Meyer. Mrs. Meyer sums up how I often reacted this past year ...

Quite often we look at a task and think there is no way we can do what needs to be done. That happens because we look at ourselves when we should be looking at God.

I had looked at myself saying, "I can't keep this house clean anymore for these house showings.", "Do I really want to go through another move?", "We won't be able to afford this!". I spent a lot of time looking at others thinking, "When will the builder get the house done?", "Why does the builder keep charging us for every little item? This is no fair!", "My real estate agent isn't doing anything to sell our house.", "That potential buyer is trying to get our home for nothing. Doesn't he know it's worth much more?", and "How come everyone else is getting something out of all this, but we are just getting ripped off and made to give in on everything."

I often tried to give up throughout the year. I begged my husband to get us out of the whole deal more than once. My husband stayed the course, believing this was God's will for our family. Why it was God's will, he didn't know. He agreed it was a trying time. Joyce Meyer writes ...

Most of the things that are truly worth doing are never easy — we are not filled with the Spirit of God to do easy things. He fills us with His Spirit so we can do impossible things!

In the last couple of months, I've dealt with situations that were impossible for me, but I've learned, especially through my humbling and exhausting experiences this past year, that I can draw my strength from God to accomplish the tasks He has set before me. I have wasted too much time and effort trying to make things go the way I want them to. The tasks God gives may seem difficult to me, but they are not exhausting when I step out in faith. God has always provided me with the wisdom and strength to accomplish His work. Joyce Meyer writes ...

As God gave me anointed ideas and opened to me doors of opportunity for service, I stepped out in faith. Each time He met me with strength, wisdom and ability that was needed to be successful. I had reserves that I didn't even know existed, but God already knew what He had placed in me long ago.

Late yesterday afternoon, we got back from a weekend camping trip. The weather had been perfect. We had camped with other homeschool families, including a precious time of worship on Sunday morning. I was filled to overflowing with thanksgiving and joy for the Lord. On Friday, our floor had been refinished to correct a major problem. Walking into the house for the first time since the refinishing, we discovered the floor had two obvious problems that would have to be fixed. In that moment, I almost allowed my joy and thanksgiving to be stolen away. I refused! Instead, I asked the Lord to give me His strength to make it through more time of inconvenience as the floor is fixed. It seems like such a small thing but to me it was a victory!

One final quote from Joyce Meyer ...

We must be determined, work hard, and refuse to quit or give up — drawing strength from God and not depending on ourselves. If we will do these things persistently, we will eventually have victory.

I pray that the Lord blesses your day as you turn to Him and draw upon Him for strength!

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.
- Ephesians 6:10

For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, that he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; that Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; and to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God. - Ephesians 3:14-19

God is my strength and power: and he maketh my way perfect. - 2 Samuel 22:33

The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower. - Psalm 18:2

The LORD will give strength unto his people; the LORD will bless his people with peace. - Psalm 29:11

And Ananias went his way, and entered into the house; and putting his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, that appeared unto thee in the way as thou camest, hath sent me, that thou mightest receive thy sight, and be filled with the Holy Ghost. And immediately there fell from his eyes as it had been scales: and he received sight forthwith, and arose, and was baptized. And when he had received meat, he was strengthened. Then was Saul certain days with the disciples which were at Damascus. And straightway he preached Christ in the synagogues, that he is the Son of God. But all that heard him were amazed, and said; Is not this he that destroyed them which called on this name in Jerusalem, and came hither for that intent, that he might bring them bound unto the chief priests? But Saul increased the more in strength, and confounded the Jews which dwelt at Damascus, proving that this is very Christ. - Acts 9:17-22

How to Succeed at Being Yourself
by Joyce Meyer
In February I started watching Joyce Meyer on television. My sister had mentioned she watched her each day and a dear friend was also recommending her. I was at a very low point in my life, struggling with myself, with the house selling and the house building, just feeling very low and weak. Mrs. Meyer and her ministry (through her tapes, books, and daily TV and radio programs) have been a tremendous blessing from the Lord in my life!! How to Succeed at Being Yourself has challenged me to move beyond my insecurities and enjoy the life God has planned for me. I highly recommend it. - Kathy Ridpath
